General

What is Sticky Cards?

Sticky is a retention platform built specifically for cannabis retail, with email, SMS, push notifications, and wallet-based loyalty all on a single canvas. The "Cards" part of the name refers to our flagship product: a real Apple & Google Wallet loyalty pass that lives on the customer's lock screen, refreshes from your POS in real time, and never gets uninstalled like an app.

Today we power loyalty, push, and messaging for hundreds of dispensaries across North America. Sticky is also expanding into other high-risk verticals (alcohol, gaming) where SMS carrier filtering breaks traditional marketing tools.

How does Sticky Cards work?

The customer scans a QR code at your counter, on a receipt, or on your menu, then taps "Add to Wallet." Their loyalty pass installs in seconds, and a customer record syncs into Sticky. From there:

  • Every order from your POS streams into Sticky as a signed webhook in under 200ms.
  • Points, tiers, and rewards accrue automatically against your configured rules.
  • The wallet pass refreshes in real time - new balance, new tier, next-class info, renewal date.
  • Push notifications go directly to the lock screen, no app install required.
  • Email, SMS, and journey automations can all be triggered off the same data.

Setup is run end-to-end by a Sticky implementation specialist. Most dispensaries issue their first wallet pass within 48 hours.

Who is Sticky Cards for?

Sticky is built for cannabis retailers and other high-risk industries that have outgrown traditional ESPs. Specifically:

  • Single-location dispensaries that want loyalty + push + email + SMS without joining 4 tools together.
  • Multi-location operators (3-50 stores) who need shared lists, per-store creative, and role-based access.
  • Enterprise MSOs with 10+ locations who need SSO, sandboxes, dedicated CSMs, and SLA guarantees.
  • Adjacent SHAFT verticals - alcohol retailers, gaming operators, anyone whose marketing gets filtered by SMS carriers.

If you're currently spending more than $500/month duct-taping SpringBig + Klaviyo + Zapier + a punch card, Sticky probably consolidates that stack and lowers your bill.

Why is Sticky better than traditional loyalty programs?

Three structural reasons:

  • The pass lives in Apple/Google Wallet, not in another app. Customers carry it next to their boarding pass and concert ticket. Adoption rates are 3-5× higher than dispensary-specific apps.
  • Push goes directly to the lock screen. Wallet push rides Apple Push Notification Service and Firebase Cloud Messaging, so you bypass SMS carriers entirely - no SHAFT filtering, no per-message cost.
  • It's actually integrated. Loyalty data, email, SMS, push, journeys, and analytics live on one canvas. No CSV exports, no manual segment syncing, no duct-taped Zapier flows.

Plastic punch cards die in junk drawers. Dispensary-specific apps never get installed. Wallet passes get carried because customers actually want them carried.

What are the benefits of push notifications over SMS?

Four big ones, all of which compound:

  • No carrier-side filtering. Wallet push runs on Apple/Google notification rails, so cannabis-related sends aren't filtered by US carriers the way SMS often is. Delivery still depends on the device being online and the customer keeping the pass and notifications enabled.
  • $0 per message. No carrier fees, no MMS surcharges, no shortcode costs. Send as often as your audience tolerates.
  • Higher open + tap rates. Lock-screen push consistently outperforms SMS opens by 2-4× in our customer cohort data.
  • One-tap revoke for the customer. Users can remove the pass anytime, which keeps the channel honest and consent-respectful by construction.

SMS still has its place for transactional moments (pickup ready, reservation reminder). Sticky just doesn't force you to pay carrier toll on every promotional send.

Is Sticky compliant with cannabis regulations?

Yes - Sticky is built for SHAFT (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco) and other high-risk industries from the ground up. Specifically:

  • SMS carrier compliance: 10DLC registration, TCPA-compliant double opt-in, automatic quiet hours (no sends before 9am or after 9pm in the recipient's local time zone), and AI copy review before any send.
  • State-level rules: Per-state compliance rule sets for sends and promotions (I-502, AUMA, OMMA, and every state in between).
  • Wallet pass compliance: Passes carry zero ad copy, age verification is built into enrollment, and every customer can one-tap revoke their pass.
  • Auditability: Every send is HMAC-signed and replayable for 90 days, so legal can audit any campaign in minutes.

We work with operators across the US and Canada. If you have a specific state or province question, our team can confirm before you sign anything.

Performance & results

How does Sticky help increase customer retention?

Three mechanisms, working together:

  • The wallet pass keeps you on the lock screen. Customers don't have to remember you - their phone reminds them.
  • Behavior-triggered playbooks fire automatically. Birthday push, winback when a customer goes silent for 30 days, drop-day alerts when a new strain hits the menu they used to buy. None of these require a human to remember.
  • Push hits where SMS gets filtered. Operators commonly tell us 30-60% of their SMS sends silently dropped before they switched - Sticky's push channel recovers that audience.

Across our customer base, dispensaries typically see a 20-40% lift in 90-day repeat visit rate within the first quarter after launch.

What kind of ROI can I expect?

The honest answer is that ROI depends on your starting baseline. A few directional numbers from our cohort:

  • Average return per push send: 4.2× ad spend (vs. roughly 1.5-2× for SMS in cannabis).
  • 90-day repeat visit rate lift: +25 to +40% depending on segment.
  • SMS cost recovered: Dispensaries on Sticky typically eliminate $400-2000/month in SMS carrier fees because push absorbs the volume.
  • Time saved: A typical multi-location operator saves 10-15 hours per week of manual segment-building, list-merging, and budtender loyalty lookups.

The ROI calculator at roi-calculator.html takes your store count and current tool stack and gives you a 12-month projection based on cohort data.

Pricing

How much does Sticky cost?

Sticky offers four plan tiers, all month-to-month with no annual contract requirement:

  • Essentials - $399/mo (CA only). Single location, email + SMS basics, basic wallet loyalty.
  • Growth - $599/mo. 50k emails included, Play Designer (visual journey builder), wallet loyalty, push.
  • Scale - $999/mo. Multi-store, priority support, advanced segments, full Playbook gallery.
  • Enterprise - custom. SSO, sandbox, dedicated CSM, custom SLAs - typically for operators with 10+ locations.

Full breakdown lives at pricing.html. Migration from SpringBig, Alpine IQ, or any generic ESP is free - we move your lists, loyalty balances, and creative at no cost.

Are there any hidden fees?

No - and we've been intentional about this because the SMS-loyalty industry has trained operators to expect surprise charges. What you see is what you pay:

  • No setup fee. Implementation is included in your monthly plan, regardless of tier.
  • No per-message push fees. Wallet push is unlimited on every plan.
  • SMS is metered transparently. Each plan includes a credit allotment (1 credit = 15 emails, 1 SMS, or ½ MMS). Credit packs never expire. You see live usage in-app.
  • No charge for inactive contacts. Your list size doesn't change your bill.
  • No data egress fees. Export your customer data anytime, no contract required.

Setup & use

How do I set up Sticky for my business?

A Sticky implementation specialist runs the whole setup with you - it's not a "log in and figure it out" experience. The typical onboarding:

  • Day 1: Kickoff call, POS credentials exchanged, webhook wiring verified.
  • Day 2-3: Reward rules configured, wallet pass design (colors, logo, copy) reviewed and approved.
  • Day 4-5: First playbook drafted by Sticky AI based on a scan of your last 90 days of POS data; you approve before it ships.
  • Week 1: Staff training session (15 minutes), in-store QR signage shipped, public launch.

Most dispensaries are issuing their first wallet pass within 48 hours, with the full playbook stack live inside two weeks.

Can Sticky integrate with my POS system?

Yes - Sticky has certified integrations with every major cannabis POS, plus a direct webhook layer for anything custom. Currently live:

  • Cannabis POS: Dutchie, Treez, Flowhub, Cova, Blaze, Greenline, TechPOS, GrowFlow, MJ Freeway, POSaBIT, PROTEUS420, Givex POS.
  • E-commerce: Shopify, Breadstack, Dutchie online ordering.
  • Marketing automation: Klaviyo, Marsello.
  • Anything else: Our webhook + REST API can plug into any tool that emits order events.

The full integration directory lives at integrations.html. If your POS isn't on the list, ask us - we ship new connectors monthly and prioritize based on customer demand.

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. That's a deliberate product choice. The whole reason wallet loyalty works is that customers don't have to install anything - Apple Wallet (iOS) and Google Wallet (Android) are already on their phone.

The signup flow:

  • Customer scans a QR code (at the counter, on a receipt, on a delivery confirmation, on your menu).
  • Their browser opens a one-tap "Add to Apple Wallet" or "Add to Google Wallet" button.
  • The pass installs in 2-3 seconds.

No app store. No password. No "create an account." No email verification step. The friction that kills traditional loyalty signup is gone.

How can I send push notifications?

Push sends happen in three ways inside Sticky:

  • One-off blast. Pick an audience, write the copy (or let Sticky AI draft it), preview, send. Takes about 90 seconds.
  • Playbook automation. Drop the push step into any Playbook journey - drop day, winback, birthday, tier-up, cart save, etc.
  • Triggered from POS events. Pickup-ready, reservation reminder, points-recap, reward-earned - all firing automatically off real POS data.

Every send routes through quiet-hours rules (no sends before 9am or after 9pm local), compliance copy review, and frequency caps you set per customer.

05

Technical

Is Sticky secure?

Yes. The infrastructure side:

  • SOC 2 Type II audited annually.
  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256).
  • HMAC-signed webhooks in both directions, with secret rotation supported.
  • Role-based access control with single sign-on (SSO) available on Enterprise.
  • 90-day replayable event log for full auditability of sends and data flow.

Customer data side: we don't sell, share, or resell customer data. Your data is yours. You can export it anytime, and it's deleted within 30 days of contract termination. Full security and DPA details at security.html and dpa.html.

Can I customize the design of my loyalty card?

Yes - the wallet pass is fully brand-customizable. You can control:

  • Brand color (the dominant pass color, shown on the lock screen preview).
  • Logo (uploaded once, applied to every customer's pass automatically).
  • Primary, secondary, and back fields - what shows on the front (name, points, tier) and back (terms, store address, support line).
  • Strip image (an optional hero photograph or illustration above the fields).
  • Reward thresholds, tier names, and badge designs.

Apple Wallet has some platform constraints (passes must follow Apple's pass.json schema), but everything within those constraints is yours. Sticky's design team can put together a first-draft pass during onboarding if you don't have brand assets ready.
